Unit Focus:
Students will focus on (1) how authors construct theme/characterization based on a wide array of texts with a primary focus on poetry, stories, and drama from diverse cultures and (2) how to compose a well-organized narrative that engages and orients the reader by establishing a context and point of view, uses precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to manage the complexity of the topic, uses narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters, uses varied transitions and sentence structures to create cohesion in the text, and provides a conclusion that follows from and reflects on the narrated experiences or events.
